History

After jointly organising the MXGP in Bastogne in 2012 and 2013, André Mathieu, aware of the economic impact that this type of event could generate, naturally turned to his region to find a suitable location for the creation of a brand new motocross course.

After several searches and discussions, an agreement was reached with a landowner near Lierneux, at a place called ‘Les Hauts Sarts’. Although the site is close to the E25 motorway and the N89, it is also somewhat isolated from nearby housing, as the first houses are around 900 metres away…

With the first shovels in the ground, the Hauts Sarts motocross circuit was born. In the meantime, André Mathieu, despite his busy schedule, set himself the challenge of organising the 2014 Junior World Championship on the same circuit, no less…

After weeks of work of rare intensity, given the time limit, and especially in view of the measures imposed by the FIM and MXGP for the organisation of the event, everything was ready for the deadline imposed, and the Junior World Championship moved to Lierneux in August 2014! As the operating permit was provisional, it was necessary to take the appropriate steps to make the site a permanent circuit.

On 25 September 2023, the class 1 operating licence was granted, and MX LIERNEUX was born!
